The GOEMP Committee is Recruiting for the 2023-2025 Term

Are you an emerging museum professional (EMP) within the first 10 years of your museum career? Are you passionate about the future of museums and cultural organizations in Ontario? Do you want to create a thriving, dynamic museum sector that supports the needs of EMPs?  

If so, then the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP) Committee is looking for you! We are searching for EMPs from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and all corners of the province to share their skills and expertise with our dynamic team. 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Committee members are champions for EMPs in Ontario! You will develop exciting programs, events, communications, advocacy efforts, and more, through the emerging museum professional’s lens. As an ambassador of the GOEMP Committee, you will represent EMP’s views and have the chance to network with senior museum leaders across the province. 

All GOEMP Committee members sit on at least one subcommittee and have the chance to form new subcommittees to address emerging or topical issues in the sector. For information about current Committee members and their roles, please visit our Team page.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

Members can expect to volunteer 5-8 hours per month on average.

The GOEMP Committee meets on a bi-monthly basis (six times per year, every other month) for approximately 60 minutes/meet. Subcommittees meet bi-monthly or quarterly for approximately 60 minutes per meeting.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? 

We are looking for six (6) to eight (8) people to participate in this Committee for a minimum term of two (2) years from May 2023 – June 2025.

We are looking for people who are: 

  • Within the first 10 years of their professional career in museums / cultural organizations;
  • Studying, interning, volunteering, and/or working in the Province of Ontario;
  • Museum lovers who care about the future of the profession and their fellow professionals;
  • Quick thinkers who are full of new ideas;
  • Team players who are willing to listen and learn;
  • Excellent communicators;
  • Interested in and proficient with social media and online working tools, such as Google Drive;
  • Interested in taking on leadership roles (e.g., Programs or Communications Lead);
  • Have a can-do attitude, good problem-solving skills, and strong organizational and planning capabilities.
