Adherence to the Style Guide
Writers are kindly asked to adhere to the Style Guide, which provides an outline for the expectations for articles published to goemp.wordpress.com for the sake of stylistic consistency.
- 100 to 500 words in length
- 1 image for every 200 words; max 3 images per post
- Image credit must be provided as well as an appropriate caption for each image
- No GIFs, please
- Provide links to embed in text to send readers to relevant content, museum websites, supporting data, outside context, etc. – this can help keep your word count down as directing someone to a museum’s website rather than spending 50 words explaining what it is can be a lifesaver
- Title should be 4 to 7 words i.e. able to fit on 1 line on the website (ideally)
Adherence to Column Themes
Writers are kindly asked to adhere to the themes of the Columns currently offered by goemp.wordpress.com. They are as follows:
Simply put, this is a column where reviews of exhibitions can be posted. Only one review per exhibition will be posted to allow for diversity of content, and so it will be first-come first-serve if we receive more than 1 review about a single exhibition.
Did you recently take part in a program, event, professional development opportunity, or other interesting activity in or around museums, and now want to share your experience? Or do you know about one coming up that you want others to know about? This is the column to post under.
Use this column to share with other museum professionals any past or present research that you’ve worked on. Talking about the 5 Ws of your work – who, what, when, where, why – are a great place to start!
On The Job With…
We all know that the vast majority of museum professionals often do work on the job that goes unseen. Walk readers through a day in your museum life.
Focus in on a special topic of interest to you and other museum professionals by shining a spotlight on it with this column.
All Are Welcome
The Committee members of the Group of Ontario Museum Professionals reserve the right to give publishing preference to content submitted by Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals, i.e. museum professionals living and working in Ontario who are within the first 10 years of their career in the sector. However, it is not a requirement for all writers who submit content to the Blog published on goemp.wordpress.com to be Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals i.e. someone within the first 10 years of their career in the Ontario museum sector. All museum professionals, regardless of their location or career length, are welcome to submit content for consideration. By submitting an article for consideration, you are demonstrating that you are in agreement with this statement.
If you are in agreement with the guidelines listed above and have prepared a blog post, please email it to email@example.com or use our Contact page to get in touch. We ask you to please send text and images separately with an indication in the body of your text as to where you would like the images placed and their associated captions.
