“Confessions of a Museum Professional” invites colleagues from around the world to share anonymously written postcards about studying and working in the cultural sector. Submissions should be constructive and pose questions, share frustrations, and tell stories about your workplace, educational training, failures, and experiences within the arts, culture, and heritage community. These anecdotes are brief yet poignant glimpses into a stranger’s life, where they confess instances of joy, fear, desire, regret, hope, betrayal, and more.
A selection of postcards received will be documented and shared on our Instagram account. Supported by the GOEMP Committee, it’s called @museumconfessions and you can find it by clicking here. It is our hope that this will provide museum professionals with an additional platform to discuss a collection of unique stories with their peers across disciplines, beyond geographical borders, and at any time throughout the year.
Here are a few easy steps to help get you started:
- Write your story. On the back of your postcard, write down a museum or gallery experience you would like to share with the arts and culture community. Your postcard can be handmade, purchased, decorated… it’s really up to you!
- Be anonymous. We don’t need to know your name, institution, or city of origin. Your privacy and the integrity of your colleagues is very important to us. And please remember, this isn’t a gossip column!
- Mail your postcard. Please send your postcard to the following address:
Confessions of a Museum Professional
184 Humberside Avenue, Apartment 1
Toronto, ON M6P 1K5
Alternatively, if you’d rather send us a digital postcard, please fill in the information below and click “submit”. Remember that all postcards, whether paper or digital, should remain anonymous.

OMA Webinar: Confessions of a Museum Professional 3.0: The Quarantine Edition
May 26, 2020 at 10:00am
The Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP) Committee presents the third edition of “Confessions of a Museum Professional.” Due to COVID-19’s evolving nature, which has resulted in cancelled programs and forced galleries and museums to close their doors around the world, we are taking the project online and bringing it to you as a webinar. This online session will consist of a conversation with three panelists who will directly respond to a selection of postcards we’ve received. The moderated discussion will specifically address the global pandemic and how it has affected museum professionals today.
